Meet Zocalo’s Newest Manager, Sandy!

My name is Sandy Hulse and I am the newest manager at Zocalo, Sacramento. I’m a Sacramento State graduate with a BA in Spanish and a minor in Anthropology. I grew up on a ranch, so I apologize for my social graces, but on the bright side, horses find me hilarious. I studied Spanish at UAG in Guadalajara, Mexico and I have a huge passion for the Latino culture and regional Mexican cuisine.

In my spare time I can be found at the gym or out at local restaurants in downtown Sacramento. I have played soccer for 10 years, but I play a little more like Victoria than David. I have a dog that snores during the day and the night- her name is Jolie and she is a French pug. My favorite drink is our blackberry margarita with fresh lime-juice and agave nectar. I also love wine tasting especially at local wineries like Bogle Vineyards (their Phantom red is to die for).

Managing at Zocalo has been a blast so far, from our live mariachi band on Fridays to our cilantro rice on my break. I look forward to meeting you when you come in, please feel free to ask for me and I can help you become a part of the Zocalo family.

2. Why did you join the Zocalo family?

My room mate Nikki Muth works at Zocalo and had nothing but great things to say about working for the company. Plus, who wouldnt want to work in such a beautiful bar.

3. Favorite food:

CARBS! Bread, pasta, rice… I love carbs! Other than that, I would have to say soups. Pho and Pazole are my two favorite soups as of lately!

4. Favorite drink:

Are we talking booze or non alcoholic I’m a whiskey drinker, and lately Jameson has been the drink of choice. Otherwise I would have to say 7-up. I know they say its bad for you, but I LOVE soda.

5. What do you like to do in your spare time?

I got my BA in Painting, so in my down time I like to paint. You can see my work at www.leahneher.com. Oh and of course spending time with friends and family!

6. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be?

I have been very lucky, and have actually travelled a lot. However, I have not been through Europe, or most of Africa. So either Italy or Kenya

7. What can you not live without?

CANDY! I am always carrying candy with me in my purse or behind the bar! Gummy bears, starburst, twizzlers…. I love fruity candy.

8. Hobbies that you love:

Painting, party planning, and thrift store shopping.

9. Most memorable past time:

Sitting on my parents counter with my sister and mother, drinking my moms delicious margheritas while eating chips and salsa, talking and laughing all afternoon!

10. What has been your favorite zocalo moment so far?

My favorite moment by far has to be bartending Ernesto’s wedding. I got to meet a lot of the Zocalo’s family, and really see what a loving and fun group they are.
